Nikon Df review video

I finally got my Nikon Df review video online. It sums up those 5 paradoxical things about the camera and offers my thoughts about buying it. I really do love the Df. :D It’s a fantastic all-rounder camera despite it’s flaws. I got to try out my dads old school film lenses on it as well this past weekend. They work great! I was blown away by the old 35mm f/2.8 lens. It’s sharp with no chromatic aberration wide open. Not even one of my modern AF-S Nikon primes can boast that!

This video was my first kick at the cat trying “cinematic filming techniques.” I’m no videographer, that’s for sure, but I had fun putting the montage together. Although, I recorded the outdoor scenes at temperatures between -25 and -50C (no, that’s not a typo) which made it very tricky and somewhat miserable! And I didn’t even freeze to death. Yay!

  1. For someone with excellent video skills (which I lack entirely) it was nice to see such a well thought out review. I’m with you! I shoot my Df every day.

  2. Wow great video review! I found your blog after watching it. I have a D800 and X100s, and considering going for a DF. Do you feel the X100s is expendable or overlaps after owning the DF? Both are 16mp and the price of the DF is much more. It would be nice to hear form someone that has handled both cameras.

    Great blog!

    • Thanks! This question is super hard to answer. I use them all and love them all in different ways. I wouldn’t trade either of these cameras as they are all “specialists”. I still wouldn’t get rid of my X100s, even though the Df has become my goto camera. If I owned a 35mm lens, maybe the X100s wouldn’t get much use. But I still LOVE it for events, vacation, strobe work, etc. because of the small size. The Df image quality at high ISO is so fantastic, I wouldn’t want to give that up. It’s really a nice luxury to have all three in my pack of gear. I couldn’t be without any of them! Sorry I can’t definitively answer the question.

      • Thanks of your reply. I pulled the trigger on a slightly used DF last night. So I guess I’ll have an opinion on the matter soon enough. Great blog can’t wait to read more!

      • You’re going to love the Df. It’s a fantastic little camera. I’ll be interested on your take of the “holy trinity” of cameras. :)
