Enjoyed a little photo walk for an hour late this afternoon. Gorgeous weather for a stroll in the ol’ ravine behind our place. One camera, one lens: D800 & 105mm macro. Still such a versatile combination. 😎 Just meandering along, looking for light, colour & texture. Very therapeutic!
So at last night’s photography club, we decided to go on the fall photo walk today. Beautiful, beautiful day for a walk in Shepherd’s ravine near Oxbow. I have been in there many times for geocaching and running the dog but low and behold, when we got there today, it was barricaded with a locked gate! CURSES! 👿 We had to park at the top and then hoof it on down into the valley for the mad shots. The exercise was good for us, so I’m not complaining. 😉 It was another fun photo event to be sure. I decided that I was going to shoot macro for this photo walk so all I brought was the 105mm AF-S VR Micro. That and my trusty reflector/diffuser, it was all I needed . It’s way more fun and way less complicated when you bring only 1 camera and 1 lens. Scott Kelby also did a photo walk today, you can check out the website here.
Well, yesterday we had our first ever Photo Walk as a super fun activity in our Souris Valley Photography Club. 5 of us went out to pound the pavement on the mean streets of Oxbow and show off our mad Jay Maisel street photography skills! hehehehhe….. 😉 It was a lot of fun, other than getting rained on half way through. I brought along the trusty Flip Cam and took a little video of the event. Nothing too fancy. The video ends with a slideshow of some of my images from the photo walk. Our plan as a group is to donate all of our images to the town office as stock photos they can use for website/media publications. It’s another way that the photo club can give back to the community and have fun in the mean time. 🙂
Well, we finally got a nice day today. It took about 3.9 seconds to get out the door and out for a walk with the kids. Phoebe put her rubber boots on so she could giver down the street and straight through the puddles – every 3 year olds dream, right? 😉 I brought out the 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VR lens for this little shoot today.
The reach is nice, especially for the reflection shots I *tried* to get but proved elusive and with lots of light you don’t need to worry about f stops as much. It’s always good to just get out and enjoy taking pictures! 🙂
My favorite image of the day was this one. It was taken after we got home and she was standing in the overhead garage door space. The lighting was super rad and I caught it out of the corner of my eye. I spun around and with the camera in continuous I banged off some shots. I just really love the beautiful contrast to the light, almost got a Rembrandt light pattern out of the deal! 🙂
